Tomorrow, October 30, Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School (DRRHS) will open its doors to all Dighton-Rehoboth families for Green & Gold Night — a chance to meet teachers, leaders, students, and coaches, and see for themselves the wide variety of opportunities that prove "there’s something for everyone” at DRRHS.
There are some middle school students, however, who are already getting a sneak peek into the DRRHS student experience. This year, the middle and high schools are piloting a program that invites eighth-grade students in advanced math to attend Honors Algebra 1 classes at the high school, earning high school Algebra credits.
“I really like that I am being challenged in this class,” said one eighth grade student. “Although it is frustrating when I don't understand things sometimes, it is really rewarding when I do eventually understand them and get a good grade on the test that I worked hard studying for. It has helped me think about solving mathematical problems in different ways which I think will really benefit me in the future. I am also really enjoying the school itself - I am really excited to go to the high school! I also really like Mrs. Enos as a teacher, she is really helpful and supportive.”
“I have most liked the ability to be able to work with kids from Dighton Middle School and meet new people,” added a Beckwith student.
Students arrive bright and early for the first period class and are then treated to breakfast in the high school cafeteria (also a noted high point) before catching a bus back to their middle school.
Math teacher Karen Enos, Principal Dustin Demers, Assistant Superintendent Fred Souza, and Superintendent Bill Runey worked together to make this idea a reality.
“It has been such a rewarding experience having our eighth-grade students come up to the high school to take Honors Algebra 1,” said Enos. “They have adjusted so well to the challenge and truly seem to be enjoying the experience. We are proud of their hard work and hope we have the opportunity to teach them again at DRRHS in the future”.
“This is a wonderful example of what we mean when we say We Are DR,” said Superintendent Bill Runey. “Our staff saw an opportunity to give students a head start, collaborated across schools, and created an experience that’s both rigorous and welcoming. Strengthening the connection between middle and high school is a key part of our ongoing focus on student retention and engagement — we want every eighth grader to feel excited and confident about continuing their journey right here at DRRHS. It’s that sense of unity and purpose that makes Dighton-Rehoboth such a special place to learn.”
The Algebra program is just one of many ways DR’s middle school students can connect with the high school. Several DRRHS sports are open to eighth-grade participation, and the high school hosts a summer experience for 5-8th graders. Athletics Director Matt McKinnon and CTE Director Mike Strojny take current DRRHS students from athletic teams and CTE programs to visit both middle schools to talk with students about their experiences and opportunities available.
Join us at Green & Gold Night to learn about DRRHS academics, athletics, arts, theatre, CTE programs, clubs and activities, and more on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 6pm.
